William Joe Dailey was 25 when he disappeared after a road trip through Alaska. He was last seen on July 15, 1980, in Haines Junction, Yukon, while traveling home from Alaska with two friends in a dark blue 1972 Dodge flatbed pickup with black racks. At the time he was described as a White male, 5 feet 10 inches, about 236 pounds, with a heavy build, ruddy complexion, black hair, blue eyes, and a mustache and beard.
Reports say the three were together on the return trip but that Dailey’s travel with them ended in Haines Junction; details about the circumstances of his disappearance are sparse. The Royal Canadian Mounted Police M Division kept his file open. It remains unclear whether he was left behind, chose another route home, or if some other event occurred.
If anyone was in Haines Junction or traveling the Alaska Highway around July 15, 1980, and remembers seeing Dailey, the truck, or anything that might explain what happened, please come forward with what you know.
