Gabriel Calderon was 17 when he was shot and fatally wounded in Prescott Valley, Arizona. He was found with multiple gunshot wounds on April 16, 2014, taken to a Phoenix hospital, and died there on April 17, 2014. Born October 2, 1996, in Prescott, his death prompted an immediate investigation.

Prescott Valley police identified a suspect and obtained a warrant. In late April 2014, officers moved to arrest 23-year-old Richard Quiroz; the vehicle he occupied rammed an officer’s car during the attempt to take him into custody. Richard Quiroz was arrested and later charged with first-degree murder and witness tampering. A second person in the vehicle, 22-year-old Chris Quiroz, was also arrested but on unrelated felony drug charges. Anti-drug officers were involved in the investigation.

Gabriel’s funeral mass was celebrated at Sacred Heart Catholic Church on April 25, 2014, and he was buried at the Arizona Pioneers Home Cemetery in Prescott. If anyone knew Gabriel or has information about the shooting, please come forward.
