Jack Eller Creed, 22, of Peoria, Arizona, died after being struck by a single .22 caliber round while on a camping outing near Prescott on July 26, 2024. He and a close friend had gone into a secluded area at UCYC Camp to shoot firearms and reportedly to hunt skunks. As they returned to camp, the friend believed his .22 firearm was clear after pulling the charging handle back several times; he then pulled the trigger and the round struck Jack in the abdomen.
Jack was taken to a local hospital in Prescott in stable condition, then suffered complications during transfer to a Phoenix-area hospital. He underwent surgery but died on July 27, 2024. The Yavapai County Sheriff’s Office opened an investigation; the friend who fired the shot has not been publicly identified. Jack was due to be best man at the friend’s upcoming wedding and was described as someone who loved the outdoors and was kind and generous.
What can readers who knew Jack or were at UCYC Camp on July 26 tell the investigation?
