Nancy Dumas, a 78-year-old Elder of the Marcel Colomb First Nation, was last seen leaving her daughter’s home in Lynn Lake, Manitoba, on February 28, 1987. She told family she was going to visit friends and was wearing a beige coat, blue pants and white running shoes. Described as 5 feet 4 inches and 125 pounds with black hair and brown eyes, she was the oldest member of her community and a well-known advocate for her people’s rights.
Her family reported her missing on March 3, 1987. Searches were conducted but produced no leads, and the Lynn Lake RCMP detachment has been investigating the case with few updates over the decades. Nancy did not live to see the Marcel Colomb First Nation’s later official recognition and resettlement at Black Sturgeon Falls, a development her efforts helped make possible.
If anyone knew Nancy, her movements in Lynn Lake around February 28, 1987, or remembers seeing someone matching her description that day, please share what you know.
