Loretta Garrett vanished on a summer day in July 1961 after walking down a trail toward the Moose Brook River in Northesk Parish, New Brunswick. She was 43 and had been on a fishing outing with her husband and another couple; the two men went ahead to fish while the women stayed with the car. Loretta said she was bothered by heat and insects and followed the men down the same path — that was the last confirmed sighting.

She was last seen wearing blue jeans, a black and red shirt with a pink sweater, brown shoes, and a brown straw hat. Searches of the rugged terrain reportedly turned up no trace, and there were no witnesses to any foul play; her husband and friends were the last people to have contact with her. Born in 1918, Loretta’s disappearance remains an open but inactive file, with no physical evidence or public photographs available.

Does anyone who spent time near Moose Brook in the early 1960s remember anything that might help explain how someone could vanish so completely?
