Just stumbled upon Muriel Geraldine Jones's case from 1959, and I'm really intrigued by the surname 'Ness' that she sometimes used. It was her ex-husband's last name, and they had just finalized their divorce in 1958, right before she disappeared. I'm wondering if there's any significance to her continuing to use that name. Could it suggest that she was trying to maintain some sort of connection to her past, or perhaps she felt more comfortable with that identity? It does make me think—if she was attempting to start fresh out west, why not completely break away from that part of her past too? This little detail of sticking with the name 'Ness' seems like it might have some importance in understanding her mindset prior to her disappearance. Does anyone else have thoughts on this, or perhaps some insight into similar situations where a change (or lack of change) of last name played a key role in missing persons cases?
