I've been fascinated by Barry Alexander Kelly's case for a while now, especially since it seems so intertwined with both Canadian and American jurisdictions. I've been doing some digging into cultural shifts of the area during the 1970s and came across something interesting—there were quite a few transient communities and underground social scenes around Niagara Falls back then.
Could it be possible that Barry got mixed up with a group that operated under the radar? I've read that Niagara Falls, NY, in particular had a lot of unsanctioned clubs and gatherings, which were more of a counterculture kind of thing. Folks in such scenes often dropped off the map, choosing to live in intentional obscurity.
I can't help but wonder if his state of despondency wasn't just a personal struggle but perhaps a sign he was turning away from something, or maybe even looking for something new among these scenes? Curious to know if anyone else has considered this angle or if it's just a rabbit hole with no real significance.
