I’ve been thinking a lot about the Spider Lake trail network and how harsh it can be if someone were to get lost or injured. I’ve hiked in that area a few times, and it’s incredibly easy to take a wrong turn and end up somewhere completely unexpected. The dense forest and narrow paths can make it hard to navigate, especially if the weather changes. It got me wondering if anyone’s revisited the idea that Martin might’ve taken a less-traveled route or tried to find a shortcut through the woods. Considering his cycling skills, do we know if he’d explored off the beaten path before? Maybe there’s an unofficial trail that searchers overlooked. Anyone heard of locals spotting any paths that aren’t on the official maps?
