Philomene Lemay, a 35-year-old Indigenous woman, disappeared from Slave Lake, Alberta in the summer of 1966. She was last seen on the evening of August 1 at a local bar where she’d been socializing. Witnesses described her as about five feet three inches, medium build, dark complexion, with long black hair, wearing blue denim jeans and a pink sweater; she was reportedly intoxicated that night.
Accounts from the night say she may not have left the bar alone and that she might have departed with one or two men who were possibly American, but those individuals have never been identified. The Slave Lake RCMP detachment continues to list the case as an active missing person investigation and Philomene has never been found.
Anyone who knew Philomene, remembers the bar scene in Slave Lake on August 1, 1966, or has information about people matching that description in the area is asked to come forward.
