Has anyone wondered why they chose to cross the Ottawa River on a snowmobile that day? I get that snowmobiling is pretty common in Canada during winter, but crossing a river—especially in February—seems incredibly risky. I've read that ice conditions can be so unpredictable. It feels like something must have gone terribly wrong for them to end up where the snowmobile was found near the Blair Road boat launch. Was there a reason they rushed to Ottawa on that specific day?
I'm also curious if there were any warnings or if local people advised against taking that route because of the ice conditions. Maybe someone who knows the area or who was around during that time could shed some light. It's just so baffling that, even after all this time, Richard's body was never recovered. Such an unsettling case.
