Jenifer Nelson, 48, was shot and killed on February 23, 2017, while sitting in a car in the parking lot outside Kelly’s Place, a sports bar in Jacksonville, Florida. A second woman in the vehicle was wounded. Witnesses said a Dodge Charger pulled up, two individuals with braids or dreadlocks got out, opened fire, then drove away.
Nelson was a mother of four and grandmother of five. Her death devastated family and neighbors; a vigil drew relatives and friends who lit candles and spoke about the loss. Community leaders, including Councilman Garrett Dennis, tied the area’s violence to neglect and a lack of resources, and the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office crime map showed several prior incidents nearby. Police have continued their investigation and Nelson’s family urged the perpetrators to turn themselves in.
Does anyone have information about the shooting or recalls seeing a Dodge Charger in the Kelly’s Place parking lot that night?
