Has anyone ever looked into the status of missing Indigenous women in the Downtown Eastside during the late 70s? In reading about Mary Catherine Mark’s case, it struck me how her lack of documentation complicated matters. I wonder how common this was among Indigenous communities at the time. Were there any efforts back then to address this systemic issue? It seems like this could have hindered investigations and may have contributed to other unsolved cases as well.
