On March 17, 2023, a 911 caller reported an injured, unresponsive person at a West Boone Street residence in Marshalltown, Iowa. Officers found 27-year-old Isaiah Montell Forest deceased; an autopsy by the Iowa Office of the State Medical Examiner determined he died of a gunshot wound and the Marshalltown Police Department described the circumstances as suspicious.
Investigators from the Marshalltown Police Department and the Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation developed a suspect within days. On March 19, 2023, 20-year-old Amarrion Demeir Isom was arrested and charged with Murder in the First Degree. Witnesses said Isom went to Forest’s home armed with a pistol grip shotgun, that one witness saw Isom raise and fire the weapon at Isaiah, and that another witness said Isom later disposed of a rolled-up rug containing multiple firearms, including the murder weapon. A third witness had been on the phone with Isaiah just before the shooting. The reported motive involved a dispute over a debt.
In February 2024 the case went to trial in Marshall County District Court; after nearly a week of testimony the jury convicted Isom of Murder in the First Degree. Those with information about Isaiah, his contacts, or the incident are asked to come forward.
