I've been fascinated by the mystery surrounding Robert Douglas Martin's disappearance, and something that's been nagging at me is the fact that so much of his life seemed to revolve around those remote mining locations in the Northwest Territories. Given how isolated those areas are, does anyone else think it's possible that some kind of weather-related incident or natural hazard might have played a part in his vanishing? When you're out in such rugged terrain, especially in the late 1960s without today's communication tech, it’d be challenging to call for help if something went wrong. It’s a chilling thought, but if he encountered severe weather or got lost in that expanse, it might explain the lack of any witnesses or physical evidence. The North Bay OPP probably did what they could given the circumstances, but those factors might have made it nearly impossible to launch a timely or effective search. Just heartbreaking to think that a young guy could set out to work one day and then simply disappear, a victim of the natural world. What do you all think about this angle? Could this have been a contributing factor to why he's remained unfound for so long?
