Brooks Thomas Wilson was a 5-year-old Caucasian boy who died on August 22, 2024, after a single, self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head at his family home on Canyon Road in Santaquin, Utah. The child was in a back bedroom when he found a 9mm handgun; his parents were elsewhere in the house and were alerted by the sound of the gunshot. The father began CPR and emergency responders arrived shortly after 2:19 p.m., but Brooks was pronounced dead at the scene.
The Santaquin Police Department described the death as accidental and said they do not suspect foul play. Authorities indicated they were not pursuing criminal charges against the parents and are investigating how the child was able to access the firearm. The community and family remain devastated by the loss.
If anyone has information about the circumstances that allowed the child to access the gun, please share what you know.
