Gail Lynn Bailey, 69, and her husband Joseph Anthony Bailey were fatally shot inside their home on East Chinook Drive in Washington, Utah, on the evening of June 18, 2024. Police found both victims with apparent gunshot wounds after responding to reports of shots fired. Gail Bailey was reportedly shot four times.
Authorities say the investigation quickly focused on their 28-year-old child, Mia Bailey. Law enforcement alleges Mia entered the home after being unwelcome there, shot her mother almost immediately, and then shot her father when he came to investigate. Mia allegedly returned and fired additional shots to ensure they were dead. A brother and his wife were in the house, locked in a downstairs bedroom after hearing the disturbance; Mia is said to have fired a shot at their bedroom door but did not injure them. Family members had reportedly expressed fear of Mia before the killings.
Mia fled, prompting an overnight manhunt and a temporary shelter-in-place order in St. George. After a standoff she surrendered and was taken into custody. She has been arrested and is facing multiple felony charges, including two counts of aggravated murder and one count of attempted aggravated murder; the Washington County Attorney’s Office will not be seeking the death penalty. Did anyone in the Washington area know Gail or Joseph, or have information about the family’s situation in the weeks before June 18?
