Clayton Duncan McFaul vanished from the family farm near Havelock, Ontario after he went out to tend to a sick cow on the morning of August 15, 1986. He was 68, lived in the farmhouse with his brother and sister-in-law, and was known for strict routines—his failure to return for lunch was the first sign something was wrong.
The Ontario Provincial Police searched the property and surrounding area using dogs, mounted officers, a helicopter and volunteers. A pail Clayton had used was found back in the barn. A severe thunderstorm that day produced lightning that struck and burned a nearby barn; investigators searched the ashes but found no evidence Clayton had been inside. Multiple reported sightings were followed up but led nowhere.
Clayton was described as 5 feet 3 inches, 141 pounds, balding with grey hair at the sides and back, missing his front teeth and showing dental decay, and bearing a hernia surgery scar. He was last seen wearing a faded blue plaid or checkered shirt, brown pants, black rubber boots and a yellow baseball cap. What happened to him that stormy August day remains unknown.
If anyone knew Clayton, worked on that farm, or remembers unusual activity near Havelock in mid‑August 1986, please share what you know.
