Adrien McNaughton was five when he disappeared from a family fishing trip at Holmes Lake near Calabogie, Ontario, on a late afternoon in June 1972. Small for his age with light blonde hair and brown eyes, he had been fishing with his father Murray McNaughton, two older brothers and a family friend. After his line tangled, he played on a nearby rock, then wandered into woods and did not return. When the family could not find him, police were called and a massive search followed.
Thousands of volunteers and the Canadian Armed Forces searched the dense forest and lakeshore for days but found no trace of Adrien or his clothing. The absence of physical evidence produced competing theories over time: accidental drowning, getting lost, animal attack, and abduction. A 2009 age-progressed image brought tips that were ruled out; more recent podcast-driven searches with cadaver dogs and divers recovered a few small items but nothing that could be tied to Adrien.
The case remains unsolved and the family continues to have unanswered questions. If anyone was at Holmes Lake that June afternoon or remembers seeing a small boy matching Adrien’s description, please share what you know.
