On the evening of June 28, 2023, 50-year-old Russell Allen Evans was shot and killed in his backyard near 4300 South and 4700 West in West Haven, Utah. Evans had stepped outside to have a cigarette when someone inside the house heard multiple pop sounds and looked out to see a man standing with his arms outstretched as if holding a gun. First responders found Evans unresponsive; he was taken to a local hospital and pronounced dead.
Authorities quickly identified the suspect as 40-year-old Dallas Wade Martineau of Roy, Utah, described as Evans’ brother-in-law. Charging documents say Martineau drove to Evans’ house, hid in the backyard, waited for him to come outside, and confessed to investigators that the shooting was premeditated. He allegedly admitted lying in wait, listening to conversations inside the home, making eye contact with Evans before firing multiple times, then fleeing. No specific motive was disclosed at the time. Martineau was charged with first-degree felony murder and held without bail.
If anyone knew Russell, his movements that evening, or has information about what led to this killing, please share what can help the investigation.
