Scott David Roberts, 65, was shot and killed at his Ogden-area home on April 27, 2023, during a violent encounter with his estranged brother, Jeffrey Roberts, who had driven in from Long Beach, California and arrived unannounced. Body-camera and doorbell footage captured a porch conversation that turned lethal when Jeffrey drew a handgun and fired multiple shots, killing Scott in the doorway. Jeffrey then entered the house, shot and wounded Scott’s wife, Jodi, and set the home on fire with road flares. Neighbors reported hearing as many as 15 shots and called 911.
When North Ogden police arrived, Jeffrey exited the burning house and opened fire on officers. The officers returned fire and fatally wounded the 66-year-old assailant. Scott was found dead inside the smoldering home; Jodi was rescued and taken to hospital. Authorities described the motive as a long-standing family dispute over their mother’s estate. Investigators reported Jeffrey was heavily armed, carrying a 9mm handgun, a 12-gauge shotgun, over 150 shotgun shells and 23 fully loaded handgun magazines. The Weber County Attorney’s Office later justified the officers’ use of force.
Did anyone in the area see the brothers before that evening or have information about the estate dispute?
