Marc Menard, 44, of Laval, Quebec, disappeared in the spring of 2013 while returning from a three-month trip through Mexico and Guatemala. He had been traveling in a white 1993 Pontiac minivan with his basset hound Maya and kept regular internet contact with friends and family during the trip. The last confirmed message from Menard was March 14, 2013, saying he was heading for the U.S. border at Nuevo Laredo. A bank withdrawal from his account was recorded in Matehuala on March 12.
There is no record of Menard crossing into the United States. Maya was later found on the outskirts of Nuevo Laredo and eventually returned to Quebec, and the white Pontiac van was recovered, but Menard himself was never located and his personal items, including his laptop, were not recovered. His family believes he was kidnapped and sought broader help, including a petition asking the Canadian government to involve Interpol. The case remains unresolved.
If anyone was in or around Matehuala or Nuevo Laredo in March 2013 and remembers seeing a white 1993 Pontiac minivan, Maya the basset hound, or anything related to Marc Menard’s route, please come forward with information.
