Heinz Arthur Meyer, 64, vanished from Haines Junction in the Yukon after being last heard from on September 17, 2008. His vehicle was found abandoned on Marshall Creek Road on September 18, 2008, in a remote area. At the time he went missing he was described as five feet ten inches, about 200 pounds, with blue eyes, brown balding hair, a salt-and-pepper beard, and he often wore tinted prescription glasses and a baseball cap.
RCMP and civilian search and rescue teams mounted ground and aerial searches beginning September 24, 2008, with a police dog also involved. Searches continued the next day but were scaled back when no sign of Heinz turned up. Friends said he was not a hunter or camper, which they felt made a voluntary deep-bush excursion unlikely. Reported sightings in Haines Junction and Whitehorse were not confirmed, and investigators contacted family and acquaintances outside the Yukon without obtaining new leads. Authorities reported no indication of foul play.
Did anyone in the community know where Heinz spent his time or remember seeing him around Haines Junction or Whitehorse in September 2008?
