Henrietta Helena Wilhelmina Millek was 25 and living in St. John’s when she disappeared the night of December 10 or 11, 1982. Originally from Nain, she had moved to the city to take nursing classes at Memorial University while working as an Inuit translator and a cleaner. She was a mother of two young sons.

That evening she was at the Key Club on Water Street West; her purse and keys were left on the club floor and she was never seen again. Early reports said she had been bothered by at least two men and may have left the club against her will. Investigators later excavated a property on Blackhead Road in 1995 after a tip, without finding evidence. Her purse was sent for DNA testing in 2013.

In 2016 a new witness said they had picked Henrietta up hitchhiking the night she vanished and dropped her on the Trans-Canada Highway near Roaches Line, saying she was trying to reach Makinsons to see an infant son in foster care. A ground search of that area produced no clues. The case remains unsolved and her family continues to seek answers.

Did anyone in St. John’s or along Roaches Line remember seeing Henrietta that night or know anything that could help her sons find closure?
