On the morning of August 20, 2004, 83-year-old Edmee Eva Mitchell was last seen at her home in the rural Kelly Lake area of British Columbia. An Indigenous elder who had lived in the community for more than 40 years, she was known for walking the local bush to pick berries and was described as 5 feet tall, about 130 pounds, with grey hair, brown eyes and blind in one eye. She was last seen wearing a long red blouse.
When Eva did not return that day her family reported her missing. Searchers mobilized quickly: more than 500 people took part, including ground search-and-rescue teams from across British Columbia, RCMP helicopters and police dogs. Her dog was found the day after she vanished, walking home alone, but the extensive search produced no sign of Eva and she was never found.
Investigators noted a report of an unknown man living in a nearby trailer, but that individual was not located or identified. The investigation remains open. If anyone knew Eva, the people she spent time with, or saw someone living in a trailer near her home in August 2004, can you share what you remember?
