On the evening of Tuesday, October 15, 2024, gunfire was reported at the South Pointe Apartments on California Street in Marianna, Arkansas. Officers found 25-year-old Black man Danny Jordan lying in an open doorway of one of the apartments with apparent gunshot wounds. The Lee County Coroner pronounced him dead at the scene and the Arkansas State Crime Laboratory received his body for determination of the official cause and manner of death.

The Marianna Police Department asked the Arkansas State Police Criminal Investigation Division to lead the homicide probe. Two days after the shooting, on October 17, 2024, Special Agents arrested 18-year-old Jeremiah Harris of Marianna and charged him with First-Degree Murder and Committing a Terroristic Act; he was held at the Lee County Detention Center and scheduled for a bond hearing on October 21.
