On the afternoon of Wednesday, June 13, 1990, 15-year-old Delphine Anne Camelia Nikal left her uncle’s home in Telkwa, British Columbia, to hitchhike about 16 kilometers to Smithers to meet friends. She spent the day with friends and, unusually, invited them to a sleepover; they declined. Around 10:00 p.m. she phoned her uncle to say she was heading home and was last seen by two friends hitchhiking eastbound on Highway 16. She never arrived home and her personal belongings remained at her uncle’s house.
Family searches turned up few leads. A gas station employee reported seeing her get into a red sports car, and there was unconfirmed speculation she might have been at a rural party near Smithers. Her uncle was investigated but evidence indicated she never returned to the house that night. Her disappearance is part of the RCMP E-PANA probe into multiple missing and murdered women along the Highway of Tears. Delphine is believed to have been a homicide victim, but her case remains unsolved.
Did anyone from that area know Delphine or remember seeing a red sports car on Highway 16 the night of June 13, 1990?
