I've been following the case of William Richard Ostertag for a while now, and something has always puzzled me about his mention to acquaintances that he'd be out of town from December 18th to 20th, 1990. It's such a specific timeframe, yet he gave no clue about where he planned to go. Could this have been a planned trip, or was it a spur-of-the-moment decision? I find it hard to believe he would leave without telling someone close at least a bit more about his plans.
Given that William was known for his hitchhiking, this opens up so many possibilities. Did he hitch a ride with someone who may have had ill intentions, or was he meeting someone he knew? It seems like such an odd piece of the puzzle that doesn’t fit neatly with the rest of his cautious and routine character. Does anyone else think there's more to this timeframe that investigators might have overlooked? Would love to hear your thoughts, especially from anyone familiar with hitchhiking culture back then or the area!
