Has anyone looked into the possibility that Gertrude might have changed her name or identity after moving to Tofino? I know it was more common back then, especially if someone wanted to start fresh or if things weren’t going well. Given her hair color changes and wearing wigs, it feels like maybe she didn't want to be easily recognized. Also, Tofino in the late ‘70s and early ‘80s was a bit of a refuge for people looking to live off the grid or blend into a laid-back community. Could be worth exploring if there are any records of new names popping up around that time. Just a thought—curious if anyone else thinks this is a possibility or has other insights?
