On the evening of January 9, 2023, 39-year-old Harold Withers of Pine Bluff was found inside a vehicle at the intersection of Port Road and Byrd Street after reports of gunfire around 7:00 p.m. Responding officers discovered Withers with apparent gunshot wounds; he was pronounced dead at the scene by the Jefferson County Coroner’s Office. The city recorded this as its second homicide of the year.

Known to family and friends as Squirt, Withers was a father of two. His family held a balloon release and remembered him as a devoted parent, noting one of his sons had previously lost his mother in a car accident. The Pine Bluff Police Department’s Detective Division sent his body to the state Crime Laboratory and opened an immediate investigation. No suspects had been identified and no arrests announced; police asked anyone with information to contact the department’s detective division, tip line, or main dispatch.

Does anyone who knew Harold or who was in the Port Road and Byrd Street area on January 9 have information that could help the investigation?
