I’ve been delving into the Samuelson case lately and wanted to get some thoughts on the geography of Île Bizard. How common is it for the ice on the lake to give way this time of year? I know Canadian winters are hardcore, but could there have been specific weather conditions leading up to January 29, 2004, that made it riskier than usual? Just curious if anyone from the area might remember if there were unusual temperature fluctuations or other factors around that time. It just seems like such a devastating accident, and I can’t help but wonder if it was truly unpredictable or if there were warning signs people might have missed.
