Christopher Alan Johnson, 36, was shot and killed after a confrontation outside the Speakeasy Tavern at 301 Main St. in Longmont shortly after 12:30 a.m. on March 29, 2024. The dispute began as a physical and verbal altercation between two groups of men and escalated when one man produced a handgun; Johnson suffered fatal injuries and was found by police at the scene.

A suspect remained at the location and was contacted by law enforcement, but no arrests were announced at the time of the report. Investigators said alcohol was not believed to have contributed to the dispute. The Longmont Police Department described the investigation as active and said findings would be forwarded to the Boulder County District Attorney’s Office for review.

Anyone who was at the Speakeasy in the hours before the shooting or who captured video that could help investigators is asked to come forward.
