Jack Coogan Smith, 46, was last seen leaving his Elk Lake, Ontario, home on October 22, 1972, apparently heading east on Secondary Highway 560 for a hunting trip. He carried a .22 caliber rifle and a small backpack. Described as slender with fair complexion and short brown hair, Smith was familiar in the small community but vanished into the dense wilderness that borders the route.
Public detail about any search or rescue efforts at the time is sparse. There have been no widely publicized leads, discoveries, or new information, and the case has remained unresolved and cold in the decades since his disappearance. What is known is limited to his last movements and physical description; much about what happened after he walked away that day remains unknown.
If anyone knew Jack, spent time along Secondary Highway 560 in October 1972, or has information about his disappearance, please share what can help bring clarity to this case.
