Wow, the details about William John Smith's disappearance always make me pause, especially regarding his boat. It's crazy how in all these years, not a single trace of that white Bertram cruiser has ever turned up. I'm no boating expert, but surely a vessel that large operating in relatively familiar waters would have surfaced by now, right? It's as if it just vanished into thin air—or in this case, the depths of Lake Erie. The lake's reputation for being unpredictable makes me wonder what role it played in this mystery. Those of you familiar with boating, are there any theories about how such a large boat could completely disappear without a trace? I can’t imagine the sheer scale of the lake and the difficulties it posed during the search efforts back then. The hull ID was known too, which you’d think would give some clue. Just a lot of unanswered questions here. Thoughts?
