Akeem Campbell, 26, was fatally shot in Waterbury, Connecticut in the early morning of June 4, 2023. Police responded about 5 a.m. to reports of gunfire near North Main and Division streets and found an unoccupied vehicle in the roadway that showed signs of having been shot. Campbell was taken to Saint Mary’s Hospital by private means with a gunshot wound and later died at the hospital. The Waterbury Police Department opened a homicide investigation.

Investigators later identified a suspect in Virginia. In August 2023, 36-year-old Christopher Eason was taken into custody in Virginia; Waterbury detectives traveled there to extradite him to Connecticut. Eason was charged with murder, criminal use of a weapon, possession of a weapon in a motor vehicle and several other firearm offenses; his bond was set at $10 million.
