On the evening of April 26, 2023, 25-year-old Aaron Hunt was fatally shot in the 100 block of Denver Avenue in Bridgeport, Connecticut. Hunt, a resident of the city’s West Side, was described as an innocent bystander to a gunfight that broke out; he was struck by a bullet to the chest. ShotSpotter detected gunfire around 8:15 p.m., but Hunt’s body was not discovered until about 8:30 a.m. the next morning, when a passerby found him on the side of a house between a car and a fence. Medics pronounced him dead at the scene.

Hunt, the youngest of five brothers and a Brien McMahon High School graduate studying to be an HVAC specialist, is remembered by his family as being full of life. His family has prepared a lawsuit questioning whether a faster police response might have made a difference. Investigators identified and arrested two suspects: 27-year-old Andre Johnson, who police say fired the shot that killed Hunt and was arrested June 12, 2023, and 24-year-old Terrence Simpson, arrested June 21, 2023, whom police say fired at a different person during the altercation.
