On May 4, 2024, Taylor Glenn Jones and his wife Tara Marie Jones were shot and killed in the front yard of their home in the Black Diamond residential development in Wellington, Florida. The shooting occurred just before 5:30 p.m. in the 10500 block of Galleria Street during a dispute over a basketball hoop and property boundaries. Deputies found both victims dead when they arrived.
Norman Scott, 63, a neighbor, confessed to killing the couple and was arrested. A probable cause affidavit and surveillance from Scott’s home show Taylor Jones approaching Scott in a nonthreatening manner while Scott retrieved a handgun and began shooting. The footage shows Taylor backing away with his hands raised, falling, and being shot again; Scott then shot Tara while she was on her property. Forensic examiners found Taylor with three gunshot wounds, including one to the left eye, and Tara with three gunshot wounds, including one to the chest. The weapon was recovered inside Scott’s home. Scott faces two counts of first-degree murder with a firearm and is held without bond.
Taylor and Tara Jones left four school-aged children, ages 13 to 7. The community has organized support for the children, including a GoFundMe. If anyone knew the Jones family or witnessed the events that evening, please share what was seen or any information that could help clarify what happened.
