Marcus Kale Fournier, 25, of Bonifay, was shot and killed on March 26, 2024, after stopping to help at the scene of a single-vehicle crash on County Road 173 just outside Bonifay. A northbound car driven by Anthony Hicks Jr., with Anthony Hicks Sr. as a passenger, rolled after failing to negotiate a curve; both occupants escaped without serious injury. Fournier was driving southbound, stopped to assist, and was later found dead at the scene from a gunshot wound. First responders initially thought he had been ejected from a vehicle before discovering he had been shot. Hicks Jr. called 911 after the crash but did not report a shooting and was described by Sheriff John Tate as acting irrationally. Hicks Jr. has been charged with an open count of murder and is being held on an unrelated aggravated battery warrant from March 21. The sheriff’s office says there is no apparent connection between Fournier and the Hicks and that investigators are still piecing together what happened.
Fournier, born February 11, 1999, in Clearwater, is survived by his son Calvin Kale Fournier, his parents Ame’ Patrice Fournier and Mark Fournier, his sister Kenzie Taylor Benware, and his grandparents Pat Hice and Conrad Fournier. Funeral services were scheduled for April 4 at Sims Funeral Home Chapel with interment at Bonifay Cemetery. Does anyone have information about Fournier, the crash, or the events that followed on March 26?
