Sean Lalley, 30, was found shot to death in his vehicle at the Seven Palms Apartments in Punta Gorda, Florida, on May 13, 2023. The Punta Gorda Police Department led an extensive investigation into the killing that involved local, state and federal partners and digital forensics units from multiple agencies.

On June 18, 2024, 18-year-old Janari N. Richardson was taken into custody by a U.S. Marshal task force in Arcadia, Florida, and charged with robbery and 2nd degree murder with a firearm in connection with Lalley’s death. Richardson was booked at the Desoto County Jail and later transferred to the Charlotte County Jail. Authorities say the investigation is ongoing and that they are still seeking additional suspects.
