Camille Quarles, 16, was found dead on April 1, 2023, inside the trunk of a partially submerged Chevrolet Cruze near Malauka Loop Trace in Ocklawaha, Florida. The car belonged to fellow victim Layla Silvernail and was pulled from the water after deputies received a tip. Quarles was one of three teenagers killed in a sequence of violent incidents that spring.

According to the investigation, Quarles, Silvernail and 17-year-old Michael Hodo Jr. were part of a group of teenagers involved in car burglaries and loosely affiliated with gangs, though investigators found no evidence the killings were driven by gang rivalry. Silvernail was found critically injured with a gunshot to the head on March 30 and died April 4; Hodo’s body was found shot on March 31. Three suspects were arrested, including a 12-year-old who reportedly confessed and said he was coerced into shooting one victim by an older suspect who threatened his family.

Are there readers who knew Camille or who can offer details about the group’s movements in late March 2023?
