Layla Danielle Silvernail was a 16-year-old White girl described as an exceptional softball player and team leader. On the evening of March 30, 2023, deputies found her lying injured on the side of Southeast 183rd Avenue Road near Forest Lakes Park in Ocklawaha, Florida, with a gunshot wound to the head. She was taken to a local hospital in critical condition and remained on life support until she was pronounced deceased on April 4, 2023; her family donated her organs.

Investigators linked Layla’s death to two other teen victims. On March 31 a 17-year-old boy was found shot to death on the side of a road a few miles away, and on April 1 Layla’s 2015 Chevrolet Cruze was located partially submerged with 16-year-old Camille Quarles shot to death in the trunk. Sheriff Billy Woods said the three teens had been together in Layla’s car and described the killings as connected to so-called hybrid gangs or wannabe gangs, without specifying the victims’ involvement.

By April 2023 three juveniles had been arrested and charged with first-degree murder: Robert Le’Andrew Robinson, 17; Christopher De’l Atkins, 12; and 16-year-old Tahj Brewton. Does anyone have information about where the teens were last seen together or saw Layla that night?
