A domestic dispute in Manchester, Georgia, on the evening of July 30, 2024, ended with the death of 26-year-old Jaquavious Malik Carter, known as Mookie. Police were called to a West Main Street residence around 7:35 p.m. and found that Carter had been fatally wounded by a single gunshot during an altercation with his brother. He was taken by ambulance to a local hospital where he later died.

The Manchester Police Department asked the Georgia Bureau of Investigation to take over the inquiry. As of early August 2024 the investigation remained active with no arrests announced; the GBI has asked the public for information. The case will be turned over to the Coweta Judicial Circuit District Attorney’s Office once the GBI concludes its work. Funeral services were held in mid-August for Carter, who was born March 15, 1998.
