In the early morning hours of July 5, 2024, a dispute that began inside the Reflextions Lounge on Thornton Drive in Albany, Georgia moved into the club’s parking lot and ended with the death of 21-year-old Daveyon Wakefield. Wakefield, Black / African American, was pronounced dead at the scene of multiple gunshot wounds; three other people were injured and taken to a local hospital in stable condition. Reports say as many as 100 shell casings were recovered at the scene and the incident is believed to be gang-related.

In the days after the shooting, the Albany Police Department announced several arrests. Donnell Germain Thomas, 19, was charged with murder in connection with Wakefield’s death. Cosha Zyemma Brown, 19, and Lakeisha Wingfield, 21, were charged with affray. Jayquan Levante Miller, 26, was charged with obstruction of a law enforcement officer, and Jateyveon Decorric Kimbrough, 25, was later arrested on a charge of aggravated assault. Police said they were seeking 22-year-old Ricardriana Sha’toya Sloan and that the investigation was ongoing.
