On the night of Saturday, June 1, 2024, gunfire and screams brought neighbors on Gwens Trail to call 911. Around 11:30 p.m., Gwinnett County officers responding to the 3000 block of Betty Jean Court found 28-year-old Terrence Weston of Lawrenceville with a fatal gunshot wound; he was pronounced dead at the scene.

Investigators say the motive appeared to be drug-related. Detectives identified a 16-year-old from Lawrenceville, Ryan Abreu, as a suspect and arrested him. Prosecutors have charged Abreu as an adult with felony murder, aggravated assault, possession of a firearm by a person under 18, and possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony; he was taken into custody pending further proceedings.

Anyone who was in the Betty Jean Court area that night or who has information about Weston’s movements or contacts is asked to come forward.
