Laron Ashley, a 19-year-old Black man from Savannah remembered by family and friends as energetic, goofy and protective, was fatally shot in the pre-dawn hours of May 8, 2024. Officers were alerted by a ShotSpotter report and responded to the 2100 block of Alabama Avenue at about 3:40 a.m., finding Ashley unresponsive with a gunshot wound. Emergency crews transported him to Memorial Health University Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead at 4:17 a.m. The shooting was recorded as Savannah’s 10th homicide of 2024 and an autopsy was scheduled.

Savannah Police detectives began an immediate investigation, collecting evidence and interviewing witnesses. A week after the shooting investigators released surveillance footage of four men described as persons of interest and asked anyone with information to contact CrimeStoppers at 912-234-2020. A grand jury later returned an indictment charging Bernard Malee Norfolk with Ashley’s murder and the case has entered the court system.

Did anyone in the Savannah area see activity on Alabama Avenue that morning or recognize the men in the released footage?
