On April 9, 2024, 51-year-old David Maynard Morris Jr. was found unresponsive with a gunshot wound behind a residence in the 3800 block of Andrews Drive in Macon. Deputies from the Bibb County Sheriff’s Office were called for a reported shooting at 1:04 a.m.; the deputy coroner pronounced Morris dead shortly after 2:00 a.m.
Investigators say the homeowner had retreated to a workshop after arguing with his son. While the homeowner was in the workshop bathroom, three men — including Morris — allegedly forced their way into the building armed with firearms. The homeowner fired one shot, striking Morris just below the neck. The other two men who accompanied Morris tried to carry him away but fled and left him behind; no other injuries were reported.
The Bibb County Sheriff’s Office is investigating and, as of the latest reports, no arrests have been announced and no additional suspects have been publicly identified. Does anyone have information about that early morning on Andrews Drive or saw activity in the area that night?
