In mid-November 2023, 14-year-old Jonathan Thomas Johnson was found shot on Anderson Avenue in Thomson, Georgia, and taken to Wellstar MCG Health Medical Center in Augusta. He remained in the intensive care unit but died on Saturday, November 18, 2023. His family later donated his organs, which saved three lives.

Jonathan, born October 15, 2009, in Augusta, was a student at Thomson-McDuffie Middle School. Known to family as John John or Tank, he loved sports—especially the Chicago Bulls—and music. Relatives described him as bright, caring, and always ready to make others laugh; he was remembered as a favorite cousin who was curious and liked to teach friends new things.

The Georgia Bureau of Investigation led the inquiry and identified several suspects; in the days after Jonathan’s death, five other teenagers were arrested in connection with the shooting. Does anyone in Thomson from that time have information that could help clarify what happened that night?
