Andrew Michael Stankiewicz, 71, was fatally shot on Interstate 85 in Troup County, Georgia, on October 8, 2023, after being picked up at Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport by his wife and 32-year-old stepson, JonThomas Oliver Cloud. Stankiewicz had been riding in the front passenger seat when Cloud produced a firearm and shot him three times in the back. The wife drove straight to Wellstar West Georgia Medical Center in LaGrange, where Stankiewicz was pronounced dead in the emergency department.
Investigators found blood on the front passenger seat and bullet holes in the seat and front window, consistent with shots fired from inside the vehicle. Cloud initially gave a false story blaming an unknown couple but later admitted to the shooting, saying he hid the gun along the interstate and claiming self-defense without offering specific threats or details. He was charged with malice murder, felony murder, aggravated assault, possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony, and tampering with evidence, and a jury found him guilty on all counts.
Did anyone who knew Andrew or was traveling that route on October 8 notice anything unusual that morning?
