On the late afternoon of July 17, 2023, Vincent Terrell Myers, a 36-year-old Black man from Sylvester, Georgia, was shot and killed at the Sunoco station at 3119 South Central Drive in Tifton. Deputies from the Tift County Sheriff’s Office found Myers deceased at the scene and the Georgia Bureau of Investigation was called in to lead the death investigation. An autopsy was performed at the Macon Crime Lab.

Investigators identified a suspect, 43-year-old Antavio Latrez Pierce of Tifton, who was injured in the altercation and treated at Tift Regional Medical Center. Pierce was taken into custody on July 18, 2023, after his release from the hospital and charged with malice murder, felony murder, and aggravated assault. Family members described Myers as a U.S. Army veteran and father of three; his uncle Tyrone Taylor said Myers may have been targeted and that recent hand surgery could have limited his ability to defend himself. The suspect was denied bond and held in the Tift County Jail as the case proceeded.

Are there witnesses or anyone with information about what led up to the shooting who can help investigators?
