In the early hours of June 23, 2023, 18-year-old Dallas Rashard Johnson was found dead from a gunshot wound in the Sunnyside Baptist Church parking lot in Hampton, Georgia. Deputies from the Spalding County Sheriff’s Office discovered his body at about 2:40 a.m.

Investigators say Johnson had been with three others — Carmello Miller, Jarvis Ard, and Jonathan Morales — who were reportedly breaking into vehicles. As they fled one car, Miller, who was armed, allegedly fired a shot that struck Johnson. The three are reported to have put the wounded Johnson into a vehicle and taken him to Ard’s residence on Old Atlanta Road, where a 911 call was made. Before emergency responders arrived, Miller allegedly returned Johnson to the car and drove to the nearby church parking lot, abandoning the vehicle with Johnson inside.

The Spalding County Sheriff’s Office and the District Attorney’s Office located the shooting scene and recovered a shell casing, a projectile, and the weapon believed to have been used; witness statements and area video are reported to corroborate the account. Two suspects were taken into custody and a third was reported at large in connection with Johnson’s death.
