SerMario Sen'Quez Watkins, Sr., 32, was killed by gunfire on June 10, 2023, on the 200 block of N. Broadway St. in Albany, Georgia. His shooting was the second fatal shooting in the city within two days and prompted an Albany Police Department investigation.

Investigators identified a person of interest and by September the U.S. Marshals Service arrested 25-year-old Tommy Charles Stewart III at a residence on Georgia Avenue. Stewart was booked into the Dougherty County Jail on multiple charges stemming from Watkins’s death, including murder, aggravated assault, armed robbery with a firearm, and possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime. A 29-year-old, Samquithera Tyshon Gaines, was also arrested and charged with hindering the apprehension or punishment of a criminal.

During a search of the residence where Stewart was taken into custody, officers recovered two firearms; investigators are examining whether those weapons are tied to other open cases in the city.
